In Skyrim (or rather, Tamriel) there are 10 races, each with different abilities:
Altmer - High Elves.
Bosmer - Wood Elves
Dunmer - Dark Elves
Orisimer - Orcs
Nord - Men, natives of Skyrim
Imperial - Men
Redguard - Men, like Arabs
Bretonian - Men (French?)
Kajiht - Catmen
Argonian - Lizardmen
There are no classes, you can choose a Guardian stone, but that just enhances your abilities. There are 10 other Standing Stones too.
However, when you level up, you can choose whether to enhance your Stamina (Sprint & Power attacks), your Health, or your Magicka (used when doing Magic). Then you add a perk to a Skill tree, there are lots of these, and each enhance your ability to do something, i.e. Lockpicking, or Enchanting, or Alteration.
Other, non race-specific abilities (or perhaps curses/diseases) include Vanpirism, and Lycanthropy or being a Vampire / Werewolf (!!!)
